
Honda today announced that they are expanding an earlier recall of Accord, Civic and Acura TL vehicles over a faulty airbag inflator that could send shrapnel through an inflated airbag. The recall now affects a total of 440,000 vehicles. Several injuries have occurred as a result of the defective airbag inflator. Owners of affected Accords, Civics and TLs should contact their local dealerships immediately if they have any questions or concerns. [newsnidea]

Honda has recalled its 2001 model year Accord and Civic due to excessively pressurized airbags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that certain airbags in the affected vehicles can deploy so violently that the inflator will rupture. Owners of 2001 Accords and Civics will be able to bring in their car to the local Honda store where the inflator will be replaced for free of charge. [NHTSA]

Honda is ready to release two new hybrid cars in Japan next year. The CR-Z sporty hybrid model will hit the store in February 2010, meanwhile the Fit Hybrid will be available at the end of 2010. Rumors have it that the Japanese automaker Honda is currently working on a sleek four door coupe. Dropped between the TSX and the TL line range, the new Acura coupe is probably going to run on a 3.7-liter V6 engine mated to Acura’s SH-AWD and Motion Adaptive EPS system.
