
Cadillac has proudly introduced the 2009 Escalade Platinum Hybrid, a super-luxe variant of the Escalade Hybrid. The Platinum Hybrid features a 6.0-liter V8 engine with Active Fuel Management cylinder shut-off technology and a pair of electric motors connected to a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery.
This hybrid car is rated at 332 horsepower and 367 lb-ft. of torque. The fuel consumption is rated at 20 mpg in the city. The Platinum will be available in 2WD and 4WD models that weight 5,800 and 5,600 lbs., respectively. The Escalade Platinum Hybrid will start at $84,935 upwards. [LeftLaneNews]

Toyota has announced the newest version of their Prius hybrid vehicle, which will be equipped with solar panels. The panels would be able to power part of the air-conditioning on high-end versions of the gasoline-electric Prius, that will save 10% on fuel consumption. Honda’s all-new Insight concept car has been unveiled at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. This 5-passenger car is powered by a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder i-VTEC gasoline engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor form the foundation of the Integrated Motor Assist(IMA) hybrid system. The electric motor is positioned inline between the engine and the continuously variable transmission, that adds power during acceleration and in certain cruising situations, and recaptures energy from the vehicle’s forward momentum during braking.
