
Cadillac has confirmed that the production version of the Converj Concept will be released very soon. Dubbed as the ELR, the electric coupe adopts the technology from the Chevrolet Volt. The ELR will use a version of the same Voltec drivetrain as the Volt, though probably v1.5, while the on-board generator will be a gasoline four-cylinder engine. More»

BMW has entered the electric car market by releasing the i3 all-electric small city car and i8 hybrid sports car. Both cars are constructed with lightweight aluminum structures and carbon fiber bodies. BMW claims that the i3 will be able to travel for up to 95 miles on a single charge. The Technical University of Munich will introduce the MUTE car concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011. This electric vehicle uses a 22 PS (16.5 kW / 22 hp) electric motor, which is powered by a 10 kWh lithium-ion battery. This electric motor also distributes power to the rear wheels via a torque vectoring differential. This engine configuration allows the MUTE to accelerate from 0-60km/h (37mph) in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 120km/h (75mph). Stay tuned for more updates. [Auto Bild]

Peugeot today unveiled the new 508 RXH, which is powered by a diesel-electric hybrid system. This hybrid car uses a 2.0-liter HDi FAP HYbrid4 engine, developing 147kW (200bhp) and 450Nm of torque. The 2012 Peugeot 508 RXH offers a fuel consumption of less than 4.2 liter/100km (more than 70.6mpg) with a 109g/km CO2 emission level. The car also features Open & Go system, electric front seats, head up display, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows, and the latest generation audio and satellite navigation unit. The Renault Frendzy electric concept will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011. The MPV has DeZir-inspired styling, a canvas roof and a sliding rear passenger-side door with a 37-inch digital display. This eco-friendly car uses a lithium-ion battery which sends power to an electric motor that develops 60 PS (44 kW / 59 hp) and 226 Nm (167 lb-ft) of torque. The Twizy is a line of compact cars from Renault that are so slow. This two-seater features a four wheel chassis and a 15kW electric motor that outputs 70Nm of torque, giving the same performances as a 125cc scooter. Top speed is limited to 75 km/h and the car can go as far as 100 km on a single charge. The Renault Twizy is now available for reservation.
