Upcoming Jaguar Hybrid

Jaguar will release a hybrid version of their sports car in 2013 or 2014. The hybrid version will feature a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine, a 35 kW (47hp/ 48PS) electric motor, and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. When the car’s batteries are depleted, the engine will turn on to recharge them and simultaneously provide power to the electric motor. Word has it that the first hybrid is expected to be the XJ. Land Rover will release the “range_e” diesel-electric hybrid that is based on the company’s Range Rover Sport model. Land Rover will begin prototype testing later this year. Production of the range_e will begin in late 2012, with the diesel-electric SUV set to hit dealer lots in early 2013. The Land Rover “range_e” will use a 3.0L diesel V6 engine with a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission that will produce a top speed of 120mph. Stay tuned for more updates. [LeftLaneNews]

New Audi A8 Hybrid With 2.0-Liter 4-Cylinder Engine

Audi has debuted the Audi A8 Hybrid at Geneva Motor Show 2010. This gasoline-electric hybrid version of the 2011 Audi A8 is scheduled to enter production next year. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder gasoline engine with 211HP and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) and an electric motor delivering 45HP and 211 Nm (155.63 lb-ft) of torque. The 2.0 TSI engine is linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission while the electric motor draws energy from a lithium-ion battery pack mounted at the rear. This hybrid car is said to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 235 km/h. [The New York Times]
