Subaru has announced a third recall on its new Legacy sedan and Outback vehicles. The recall is due to the oil lubrication hole within the six-speed manual transmission transfer case had not been drilled, which could lead to the gears breaking. Subaru of America also issued a stop-sale order on the affected vehicles to its U.S. dealers on July 19, 2010. The automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that hole was omitted “due to a programming error”. Subaru has also confirmed that dealers will repair these affected vehicles by drilling an oil lubrication hole and, if necessary, replace any damaged internal parts with new ones free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about August 6, 2010. [Inside Line]
